New U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced a project called Stargate, under which private companies are expected to invest $500 billion (approximately CZK 12 trillion) into infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI). According to Trump, the project will create 100,000 jobs in the United States, according to the DPA news agency.
Trump stated that the joint venture named Stargate will be established by technology companies OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle. In the first phase, they plan to invest $100 billion, with total investments expected to reach $500 billion over the next four years.
The American company OpenAI, whose leading investor is software giant Microsoft, developed the ChatGPT chatbot system based on artificial intelligence. It made the system available to the public for free in 2022. The system quickly gained massive popularity and significantly contributed to the wave of interest in artificial intelligence from the public, media, and investors.
The American company Oracle focuses on developing business software. SoftBank is a Japanese conglomerate that invests in the technology industry. Among other things, the firm controls a majority stake in the British chip company Arm and owns shares in several other tech businesses, such as Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called Stargate “the most important project of this era.” Attending the project presentation at the White House were also the heads of SoftBank and Oracle—Masayoshi Son and Larry Ellison.
